How does advertising influence consumption?

Advertising can be disguised in many different ways.  It can be inform as News, as Entertainments, as things that people look at everyday. The money that spend on Advertisement, certainly become a big profit for the Media companies, as well as great expenditures of those group of people who wanted their products to be advertised. Yet, they recovered their lost very quickly, since they know where to aim on! The audiences or we can call the Consumers.
The advertisements were obviously very interesting, attractive and so well convincing explanations, eventually having impacts from celebrities. Large amount of them commercials are bias, in which were created to trick the credulities of the audiences. As people believed on Advertisements, their demands of needs enhanced, in which the Consumers would spend their money on a particular products or service. In brief, advertisements were developed not just accidentally but on purposes that to attract the consumers to the products.

Do you think citizens are sufficiently informed about the sustainability of our consumption habits? If not, how can we become more informed about sustainability issues?

I think the citizens are NOT sufficiently informed about sustainability of our consumption habits. First of all, it depends on the income of an individual. The more money a person, there more that person will first think of living comfortably. Flashed back to the lesson I had been in Mr. Blake’s class, I accidently realized when people think of purchasing something, the first they notice of is the affordable prize, and occasionally they consider of sustainability. They wanted their life to be Comfortable first, sustainability will come after that.
A person, with full of knowledge of Sustainability, yet, he didn’t apply it to his life…Is that helps himself, or the others, or the environments any positive things? No, the answer is false. That is one of the major problems we are facing, according to my opinion. One of the possible solutions that we can have the governments make law of every product must be showed in both good and bad side, so then the Consumers’ perspectives and behaviors might be varied. They would be more hesitates when buying a product more than rushing through it and paying for the bill carelessly.

How does advertising influence consumption?

I personally think this is at the middle. Neutral, I guess. The advertising techniques usually including celebrities- models, movie stars, singers…, anyone who is suitable to be in a commercial often is well-known. As girls, we interested in products that help us to be pretty, or at least looked nice, such as clothing and cosmetic.
For example, Nuskin presented a brand new kind of lipstick, and wanted to advertise it so everyone would notice. Often they use Pretty women, with nice clothes, smooth skin, and luscious lips. As we see the model use the Nuskin lipstick on her lips and it become luscious, obviously gullible people like us would be attracted, through then fighting to spend money but it. That is how a commercial or an advertisement works on female, it seduced them; enhance their desire to be impeccable. I myself….maybe am not going to be led to the thoughtless expenditure way; however, I still have to be aware.
