Homework for Tuesday, November 2nd

How does advertising influence consumption?

Advertising can be disguised in many different ways.  It can be inform as News, as Entertainments, as things that people look at everyday. The money that spend on Advertisement, certainly become a big profit for the Media companies, as well as great expenditures of those group of people who wanted their products to be advertised. Yet, they recovered their lost very quickly, since they know where to aim on! The audiences or we can call the Consumers.
The advertisements were obviously very interesting, attractive and so well convincing explanations, eventually having impacts from celebrities. Large amount of them commercials are bias, in which were created to trick the credulities of the audiences. As people believed on Advertisements, their demands of needs enhanced, in which the Consumers would spend their money on a particular products or service. In brief, advertisements were developed not just accidentally but on purposes that to attract the consumers to the products.

Do you think citizens are sufficiently informed about the sustainability of our consumption habits? If not, how can we become more informed about sustainability issues?

I think the citizens are NOT sufficiently informed about sustainability of our consumption habits. First of all, it depends on the income of an individual. The more money a person, there more that person will first think of living comfortably. Flashed back to the lesson I had been in Mr. Blake’s class, I accidently realized when people think of purchasing something, the first they notice of is the affordable prize, and occasionally they consider of sustainability. They wanted their life to be Comfortable first, sustainability will come after that.
A person, with full of knowledge of Sustainability, yet, he didn’t apply it to his life…Is that helps himself, or the others, or the environments any positive things? No, the answer is false. That is one of the major problems we are facing, according to my opinion. One of the possible solutions that we can have the governments make law of every product must be showed in both good and bad side, so then the Consumers’ perspectives and behaviors might be varied. They would be more hesitates when buying a product more than rushing through it and paying for the bill carelessly.

How does advertising influence consumption?

I personally think this is at the middle. Neutral, I guess. The advertising techniques usually including celebrities- models, movie stars, singers…, anyone who is suitable to be in a commercial often is well-known. As girls, we interested in products that help us to be pretty, or at least looked nice, such as clothing and cosmetic.
For example, Nuskin presented a brand new kind of lipstick, and wanted to advertise it so everyone would notice. Often they use Pretty women, with nice clothes, smooth skin, and luscious lips. As we see the model use the Nuskin lipstick on her lips and it become luscious, obviously gullible people like us would be attracted, through then fighting to spend money but it. That is how a commercial or an advertisement works on female, it seduced them; enhance their desire to be impeccable. I myself….maybe am not going to be led to the thoughtless expenditure way; however, I still have to be aware.

AN IMMIGRATION TO CANADA

In the year of 1987, when the country- Vietnam still had war; deaths, funerals, laments occurred everywhere. The country was in lack of protection, in which the government kept on confiscating the houses’ properties, valuable stuffs; therefore families became poorer and more miserable. My grandparents meanwhile were working at the Hai Phong port, their salary wasn’t enough to raise a whole family with thin five children, and we ended up suffering from hunger and thirst for days long. My aunt, tired of her circumstances, she decided to immigrate. She left her homeland, through waterways entered to Canada on purpose of fleeing for shelter, but also to seek for a better life. Her immigration considered of both push and pull factor.

She successfully made the immigration within a month; since it was illegal so she had done it pretty secret. Her life was actually gone better day by day, with enough of furniture, advance in transportations and chances applying modern technologies. She temporally lives in an ethnic area where far from the center of Toronto, where the Vietnamese were mainly settled on. Come to Canada, my auntie would get opportunities to learn English, to completely vary her appearance (such as clothing), however still can maintain her own Vietnamese culture, through living with Vietnamese people in that outskirt. But, her past life wasn’t that easy, it actually was even more negative when she was in Vietnam. Auntie was effective in both physically and psychologically.  Languages seemed to her the hardest challenge, as she couldn’t interact with the Canadian using Vietnamese. It took her for years to adapt to the climate of Canada, especially in the winter. Her salary- a worker’s salary was unaffordable with winter clothes. Without any relatives, she got no help, no advantage, no one to lean on. I felt sorry for aunt, because she was lonely and missing home. She currently lives happily with her husband and children, although in facts, she lost contacts with the family (parents, brothers and sisters), friends, and her life’s conditions. Nevertheless she learned to be independent, having ability to face many kinds of situations.

ARTICLE OF THE MESSAGE FROM MOTHER NATURE

What is the main point of this article?
Reflected about how weather is changing, in which linked to the global climate change, and so led to the extreme weathers occurrence.

List four vocabulary words that you do not recognize or understand, lookup the definitions, write them out using your own words.
_Reluctant - unwilling, not feeling satisfied in doing something that you don’t want to do.
_Skeptics - reminding a person who keep on doubting behavior of something that supposes to be valid
_Industrial Resolution - a period of time when major changes in agriculture, manufacturing, mining, transport and technology had a profound effect in USA and soon spread all over the world in the 18th to 19th century.
_Vulnerable - capable of to be hurt or wounded

What is the difference between “weather” and “climate”?
  •         Weather is our day- to day- experiences, in which happen in short period of times.
  •      Climate is more static, in which describing a region’s typical weather conditions as developed over periods of times, based on the information of latitude.

What are the examples listed in the article of “extreme weather”?
  • Torrential monsoon rain
  •  Flooding
  •  Breaking heat
  • Breaking drought
  • Snowstorm

What experiences have you had with “extreme weather”?
I had been experienced a torrential monsoons rain, in which caused flooding every corner in Ha Noi, where is in the northern of Vietnam. As the rains got heavier, the ground couldn’t absorb anymore water, water stay still on the ground, caused traffic jam, dead engines…

What does the word “perception” mean?
Perception meant sensing, it was some thing like a point of view from a person’s opinion, showing the understanding about a particular topic.

What is your “perception” of global climate change?
Global warming is really an emergency alarm, in which people had to take guts, not only study about the environment; how climate change, CO2, greenhouse gases caused the global warming… but we have to be warriors who are going to stand up for the next generation, protect the Earth planet, demonstrate right ideas of possible solutions for Climate change. As you can see of how global warming impacts to living organism, in which taking away their life, their habitat, their needs. People blamed on Extreme disaster of why did it happen, yet certainly didn’t realize that they are who caused the climate change at the beginning. People might be arguing that they never faced such a difficult condition like this and how are they supposed to deal with it? However, in my opinion, people caused their own problems, and it is time to fix it, to correct it, to re-done it, to once again rebirth the Earth, at least taking one shot to improve it into a better world.

Tell me about your map: Jennyania!

The Jennyania was enclosed by the Lemon Brown Ocean, with its neighbor countries such as the Wizardradia in the Northwest, Tinker Bell land in the Southeast and the Massive world in the Northeast. Jennyania was the name based on the one who found it: Missy Jenny, and was divided into three different cites: Patrickinia with Slemish as the capital, Baba- ya ga Witchinia with capital named Jack o’ lantern and the Elfinia with the capital of Pixie Hollow. The countries had all full four seasons, well cold in the winter, warm in the spring, hot in the summer and quiet during the fall.
Patrickinia and Elfinia, unlike the Witchinia, had many similarities in both physical and human characteristics. Elfinia got a large mountain, with the height reached 600 meters, called Mt. Everest the Junior. Even through Patrickinia didn’t have any mountains, yet there was an ESB hill as tall the mountain. In around mountains and hills, there are usually rains in the summer, since then the Elf and Patrickina’s followers had advantage in planting farm and forest in that area, such as the Clover farm and the Woodland.  Nimame is an extensive river that ran through almost the country, as well as being the border between Patrickinia and Elfinia, in which become the main water resource for the Elves and the followers, since it had never been dried or polluted. Their, near the river, the Elves and Patrickina’s followers both sharing lesson of raising unicorn and training them to find water on there own. As usual, people in the same cities, with different directions, still having lots of points in common. For example the north people and the south people of Patrickinia eat the same rice that was imported from Elfinia, and they also practice the same religion -Catholic Christianity that was spread from the 14th century missionaries.
One of the proudest structure achievements in Jennyania’s legend might be the Baba-ya ga Hut, which had been applying into comic books, fairy tales, and cartoons…. It was a normal house at the top, however stood on the four Rooster’s legs, and only witches know the spell to control it, made it dancing, running, walking just like a chicken.  It is located in 5° east, 20° south, and right in between of the Wisdom tree, and Cauldron and Broom factory of Baba-ya ga Witchinia cities.
With the advantage of raining in the area of Mt. Everest the Junior, the Elf started farming at there. However, the width of the mountain is too massive, yet the area around it had been cover by large woodland, the Elves couldn’t manage to chop the trees down for land for farming. However, farming is necessary, since they need foods to stay alive, also export it to Patrickinia and Witchinia, one of the Elves finally took strength to say: “We are going to borrow the idea form Aksum kingdom, doing Terrace farming could extend the area in farming.” Many Elves approval it, yet some of them protest, however, Terrace farming actually did work in this situation. If you look at the map, you could see that the mountain had many edges, in which looked like the stair at your home, please don’t get misunderstanding that was a stair, Elves farmed on it, it was white called Terrace farming.
The Elfinia however was acknowledged as the cities where gold mines located the most. Either it is a mine, or it could be at the end of the rainbow. Meanwhile, the Massive world, where the giants and Titans are living, desired for the gold of Elfinia. Currently, a kilogram of gold can be exchanged as a thousand dollar, in which we called a Treasure. Couldn’t dominate their own greedy, the Giants started to occupy the northern of Elfinia. As the same time, they began to torture the Elf, managed them to confess the gold mine located, in the North, in the South or in the West of Jennyania. Couldn’t stand for these Massive, the Elf migrated, left their cities, went across to the Nimame rivers to Patrickinia, where was the Catholic church placed, in which the Giant didn’t dare to go to there, since it was a sanctuary. As the elf moved, they brought along an ideas of where to fine gold mine, the way to exploit it effectively.

MY FAMILY CULTURE

Through out the process in order to accomplish the family tree project, I have been learning a lot about my own history, about my hometown, my family culture, things that were so familiar to my life but I never knew the past of its. As the project has been done, I realized the family culture, traditional beliefs are really important that became a part of my life. The one question that I asked my mom and receiving in her answer a very surprise: “Mom, what is our hometown famous, traditional food?”
My hometown was in the north of Vietnam, where is Hai Phong, a port city. “Speaking of Hai phong, people thought of its very special, popular food through out the country, that is what we called Banh da cua.” my mum gently explained it. That was a huge blow to me. I ate it every week, I enjoyed it. The brownish noodle, with simple ingredients that could be found anywhere, and the tasty sauce combined together form a unique bond that being well-known, adored not only by Vietnamese people from the three regions of the country but also the foreigners.
I also learned diverse things from others friends’ presentations. For example, I learned about Korean traditional clothing from my classmate Roy, or either the sacred belief of Harvest in many Asian countries. I also knew the special ceremony for children were born of Baptism from one of my friends in different class while we were sharing information.
Discovered a hometown’s food that stands out for the Vietnamese culture, I shall feel quite please and interesting. I found that this project, not only an assignments from class to do for grade, but also helped me to understand more about my family’s exclusive culture. Last but not least, this project, basically led us to understand about our friends better, through the process of sharing family’s culture somehow proved it.

Nha Trang is a tropical city, since then growing fruit and vegetables are the main economy of its place. Also, the advantage of sea surrounding established Nha Trang another income which is Catching seafood, really popular over the country. Nha trang has a quite cozy weather, mainly the dry and a rain season, mostly in the summer is sunny, and around August, September, Octobers, it is rainy. Nha trang is pretty busy, including night or day with the populations…still can’t compare to Ho Chi Minh City.
Nha Trang has many famous places with variety of types, can be adventurous places, or religious places… Some of the examples of its well-liked location like the giant Buddha Statue, Vinpearl resort and spa, the Cable car, the Exotica dance club, Palace of Emperor Bao Dai,…etc.  People come to Nha Trang, mostly on purpose of relaxing, listen to the sea waves rustle, sun bathing, sit on the boat to go out to islands that beyond the sights, and also an extremely popular admired sport of swimmer and people who love adventures is scuba-driving.
If you have a chance to travel but struggle to find places to go, try Nha Trang, find out more fabulous things that you can do rather than just go to the beach.
